Cats Clinch Series in Run-Rule Shutout over ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 17 Wildcats clinched the series win over No. 22 Arizona State with an 11-0 run-rule shutout on Saturday night.

Arizona scored 11 runs on 10 hits with 10 RBI. A trio of Wildcats – Dakota Kennedy, Jasmine Perezchica, and Carlie Scupin – had two hits each. Allie Skaggs led the Cats with four RBI on a grand slam and Scupin followed with three RBI on a home run and a single.

The Wildcats opened the game with a two-run first inning. Head coach Caitlin Lowe used her first replay review of the season to overturn the call on the field for a Perezchica lead-off single. Scupin then hit a two-run homer – her eighth of the season – to give Arizona the early lead.

Arizona scored three in the second for a 5-0 lead in the game. With two runners on, Perezchica hit her first double of the season to score both runners. Scupin followed with an RBI single to score Perezchica.

In the fourth, Dakota Kennedy scored on a single that led to her scoring on the play courtesy of two ASU errors to give Arizona a 6-0 lead.

Arizona scored five in the sixth for the 11-0 lead. Olivia DiNardo hit an RBI single to open scoring in the inning. Skaggs hit her third grand slam of the season to extend Arizona's lead.

Freshman Aissa Silva and senior Brianna Hardy combined to shutout ASU. Silva earned the win to improve to 2-0, allowing only two hits in 5.1 innings. Hardy entered with one out in the sixth and struck out the two batters she faced to secure the win for the Cats.
