TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 16 Arizona (11-5) opened its homestand with a 9-1 run-rule win over CSU Bakersfield on Wednesday night.
Allie Skaggs hit a grand slam – her first home run of the season – and
Olivia DiNardo had two hits to push the Cats past the Roadrunners. The Wildcats drew eight walks in the win.
Arizona scored in two in the third inning on an RBI walk and an RBI groundout.
The Cats exploded for seven runs in the fourth for a 9-0 lead. DiNardo opened scoring in the fourth with an RBI single and Skaggs followed with her grand slam. Arizona scored two more on a Roadrunner error and a wild pitch.
CSUB scored one in the top of the fifth on a solo home run.
Freshman
Sydney Somerndike earned the win to improve to 3-1. She struck out a career high five batters and retired 10 straight through the first four innings.

The Wildcats host CSUN, Nebraska, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Weber State for the Hillenbrand Invitational from Mar. 3-5. Arizona will open the tournament with a doubleheader against Weber State and A&M-Commerce beginning at 4 p.m. MST on Friday.
