FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 13 Arizona (9-5) took down the Bulldogs, 9-3, in game one of the second day of the Razorback Invitational before falling to No. 7 Arkansas, 2-1 in the second game of the day. Three Wildcats -
Olivia DiNardo,
Devyn Netz, and
Carlie Scupin - hit home runs across both games.
Game 1 | No. 13 Arizona 9, Drake 3
Arizona won the first game of the day, 9-3, against Drake. The Cats scored nine runs on six hits with eight RBI.
Devyn Netz hit her third home run in three games and
Olivia DiNardo also homered in the win.
The Cats scored five runs in the first inning to take an early lead over the Bulldogs.
Devyn Netz blasted a three-run home run to score Arizona's first three runs. Following Netz's home run,
Carlie Scupin walked and
Olivia DiNardo hit her second career homer to extend Arizona's lead.
Drake hit a solo home run in the top of the second. In the third, Arizona added four runs on an RBI walk, an RBI groundout, an RBI single and a Bulldog error for a 9-1 lead.
The Bulldogs hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 9-3 game.
Ali Blanchard (3-0) earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings in relief for
Sydney Somerndike. She struck out four batters and allowed two runs. Somerndike pitched the first two innings, striking out two Bulldogs and allowing a solo home run.
Game 2 | No. 7 Arkansas 2, No. 13 Arizona 1
The Wildcats lost the second game of the day, 2-1, to Arkansas.
Carlie Scupin went 2-for-2 with a home run and a walk.
Scupin hit her solo home run in the top of the second for the early lead. The Razorbacks tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning.
Netz retired eight straight batters after giving up the RBI single in the second. In the bottom of the sixth, Arkansas hit a solo home run to take a 2-1 lead that they never gave up.
Netz (4-4) picked up the loss after pitching 6.0 innings and striking out three Razorbacks.
