TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 9 Wildcats improved to 12-4 in a five-inning, 11-3 mercy rule victory over Iowa State (10-6).
After falling in an early 3-0 hole, the Wildcats scored the game's final 11 runs, punctuated by an
Izzy Pacho walkoff single to mercy the Cyclones in the fifth.
Arizona scored 11 runs on 14 hits, with 10 RBI and three Wildcats hit home runs. Arizona had three players go 2-for-3 and
Carlie Scupin drove in a season-best four runs.
The Cats were dominant in the third inning with
Allie Skaggs, Scupin, and
Paige Dimler hitting home runs. Skaggs hit her sixth of the season and Scupin followed with a two-RBI homer – her eighth of the season. Dimler hit her first career home run to give the Cats a 4-3 lead.
A pair of singles from Carroll and Scupin and
Hannah Martinez's first triple of the season helped the Wildcats score six runs in the fourth inning to go up 10-3.
Izzy Pacho hit a walk-off single in the fifth inning, sending
Jasmine Perezchica home for the win.
Devyn Netz (5-0) struck out a career-high-tying six batters in four innings to pick up the win.
Hanah Bowen pitched in relief and struck out two Cyclones in one inning.
