TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 9 Wildcats (7-2) run-ruled Long Beach State (2-7) 12-2 in five innings on Sunday.
Allie Skaggs and
Sophia Carroll each hit two-run homers. Four Wildcats had two RBI and Arizona scored 12 runs on seven hits.
Skaggs hit her fourth home run of the season in the first inning to give UA the early 2-0 lead. In the third inning,
Carlie Scupin,
Blaise Biringer and
Hannah Martinez tacked on three runs for Arizona.
The Cats scored six runs in an explosive fourth inning. Scupin drove in another run and
Izzy Pacho hit a two-RBI single. Carroll hit her first career home run – a two-run shot to centerfield – to push Arizona to a 12-2 lead heading into the fifth.
Devyn Netz (3-0) picked up the win, pitching in relief for
Madi Elish, and allowed no runs on one hit to secure the win for the Cats.

No. 9 Arizona heads to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. from February 24-26. The Cats will face California Baptist, Cal State Fullerton, Bethune-Cookman, UC Davis and No. 1 Oklahoma in the three-day tournament.
