Wildcats Win Exhibition 86-63 Over WTAMU

TUCSON, Ariz. - Four double-digit scorers led Arizona to an 86-63 exhibition win on Thursday over West Texas A&M (WTAMU). The exhibition was the first of two the Wildcats will compete in before the 2022-23 season begins.

Jade Loville, the fifth-year transfer from Arizona State led the team in scoring with 20 points and was one of four Wildcats who scored in double digits. Cate Reese totaled 13 points on the night, and freshman Paris Clark added 11 to Arizona's total on 4-of-7 shooting. Kailyn Gilbert rounded out the crew of double-digit scorers with 10 points.

It was a balanced scoring performance from the start with all five starters putting points on the board by the first media timeout. Reese went a perfect 3-for-3 to give the Wildcats an five-point lead early on. She finished the game with six rebounds and blocked a pair of shots.

Esmery Martinez dominated on the glass, collected a game-high 12 rebounds, getting six on each end of the floor. Freshman Maya Nnaji grabbed five rebounds in 14 minutes of play, and every member of the team had at least one as Arizona owned a 46-38 advantage on the boards. WTAMU was only able to pull in eight rebounds on the offensive end of the court and scored just nine points off of those second chances.

The Cats scored 20 points off of 25 WTAMU turnovers. Arizona totaled 18 steals in the contest with Clark and Shaina Pellington leading the way with four each.

It was a strong showing for the freshmen with all four scoring. Clark and Gilbert both recorded double-digit scoring performances while Lemyah Hylton totaled six points and Nnaji tallied three.

The Cats will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 2 with another exhibition against CSU Los Angeles at 6 p.m. PT. Tickets are available for purchase here.
