QUICK HITS
  • Coming off a dominant performance at the Kansas Invitational, the Wildcats (7-2) return home to host the Wildcat Classic in the final nonconference weekend of the season.
  • Arizona swept the Kansas Invitational, needing the minimum nine sets to dispatch of Kansas, Morehead State and Syracuse. It marked the first road weekend that the Wildcats did not drop a set since Sept. 10-11, 2009.
  • The Wildcats have now won five straight matches, including four consecutive sweeps. In those five victories, Arizona has won 15 straight sets. That sits as the eighth longest set winning streak in school history. This weekend, UA will chase the school record of 22 set in 2000, when the Cats set a school record with seven straight sweeps from Sept. 16-Oct. 7.
  • Arizona is debuting a brand new offense this season, and with every passing week, the comfort level is apparent. During Arizona's five-match winning streak, it has been led by its offense. Over those five matches, Arizona is averaging 14.56 kills/set on .335 hitting.
  • While the offense is an improving work-in-progress, Arizona's defense has been stellar all season long. The Wildcats have limited their opponents to a .167 hitting percentage and have held seven of their nine opponents under .220 for the match.
  • The Wildcats are 7-0 when posting a better hitting percentage than their opponents and 0-2 when they are outhit by their opponent.
  • Arizona is third in the Pac-12 with 436 digs through three weeks of the season. The Wildcats are led by freshman libero Kamaile Hiapo's 3.65 digs/set. Hiapo's 113 digs are the most by a Pac-12 freshman (and fifth overall). Earlier this season vs. West Virginia, Hiapo posted 27 digs in Arizona's four-set win, tied for the most digs in a match by a freshman in UA history.
  • Senior middle blocker Devyn Cross hit .667 last weekend in Kansas, with 24 kills on just 33 swings. She is now hitting .478 for the season, second in the Pac-12 and 12th in the NCAA.
  • The next assist for senior setter Julia Patterson, who is currently ninth in school history in career assists, will move her up the Arizona career charts. Patterson, who is averaging 9.77 assists/set this season, enters the week with 2,691 career assists, one behind Michaela Ebben (2,692 assists; 1994-96), who currently sits eighth in school history.
  • Head coach Dave Rubio is in his 28th season as the Wildcats' head coach. Last season, Rubio became the second coach in Pac-12 history to surpass 500 victories as a league coach and currently has a career record of 519-323 (.615) at Arizona.
