SAN DIEGO – In their lone friendly of the season, the Arizona Wildcats took down the San Diego Toreros by a score of 3-0 on the road on Friday evening.
Samantha Falasco,
Kelcey Cavarra and
Iyana Zimmerman scored Arizona's three goals.
Cavarra got Arizona on the score sheet early on in the 11th minute, Zimmerman found the back of the net to make it 2-0 in the 23rd and Falasco put the nail in the coffin with a goal in the 55th.
Twenty-five players recorded minutes on the pitch, while
Jada Talley led all Wildcats with 70 minutes played. In the net,
Kendyll Humphreys and
Hope Hisey each played 45 minutes and kept a clean sheet as they each saved one shot. Humphreys got the start in goal and Hisey entered the match at the beginning of the second half.
Arizona finished the game with 11 shots, six on goal and were awarded three corner kicks. The Wildcat defense did well to keep San Diego at bay as the Toreros took just five shots all game, with two on target.
The Wildcats will open up the season six days from now on Thursday, Aug. 22 at Mulcahy Stadium against Long Beach State at 6:30 p.m. MST. Thursday's game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.
