Denham’s First-Career No-Hitter Helps Cats Sweep Beavers

CORVALLIS, Ore. – On her 21st birthday, Arizona junior pitcher Alyssa Denham threw her first career no-hitter, striking out eight over seven masterful innings, helping the 11th-ranked Wildcats defeat Oregon State 4-0 on Sunday to sweep the series.

Denham's no-no was the first of her career and the 92nd in Arizona history. The no-hitter was the first of the season for the Wildcats and first since Taylor McQuillin no-hit New Mexico on Feb. 11, 2018.

The junior struck out eight, walked three and improved to 7-2 on the season with the win. She did not allow a ball to leave the infield, getting 10 ground ball outs and two infield popups to go along with her eight strikeouts (and one Dejah Mulipola caught stealing for the 21st out).

The win was the sixth in as many tries for the Wildcats in Pac-12 play; UA (24-7) is 6-0 in league play for just the second time since 2004. The Cats now turn their attention to Arizona State, which comes to Tucson next weekend.

Jessie Harper homered again in the win, her fourth of the weekend and 17th of the season, putting her one behind Georgia's Alyssa DiCarlo for the NCAA lead.

Malia Martinez also homered in the contest, her second of the weekend and sixth of the season. Both Harper and Martinez's home runs were solo shots.

The Cats plated all four of their runs in the first two innings, using the solo homers in the first and second and a Mulipola RBI and Oregon State error in the third to give Denham the early cushion.

From there, Denham cruised, not allowing a runner to enter scoring position all game.
