ON THE PITCH

The Arizona Wildcats are ranked for the first time in the 2019 season, coming in at 25th. This is after only receiving one vote through the entirety of the season.
-
Goalkeeper Hope Hisey has now played in every Arizona Pac-12 Conference game of the season, gaining 18 saves in just four matches. Against No. 15 Washington State she added another four to her growing list, aiding in Arizona's seventh clean sheet of the season.
-
Arizona conquered No. 10 UCLA on Thursday for only the second time in Wildcat history. The victory over the 10th-ranked team came via a 3-0 shut out.
-
Senior forward Kelcey Cavarra made her first goal of the 2019 season on Thursday against Washington State. The game winning goal came in the 81' and sealed the Cats win against the Cougars.
-
The Arizona win against TCU marked the 200th career victory for head coach Tony Amato. He became the winningest coach in Wildcat history in 2018.
-
Forward Brooke Wilson has stepped up her game, scoring six goals so far in the 2019 season. This comes off of only three goals scored in the entirety of the 2018 season. Wilson's most recent goal came against UCLA and was shot from well over 30 yards. She was featured on The Sports Center Top 10 for the incredible long-range goal.
Last Time Out
The Arizona Wildcats and the Washington State Cougars seemed to be a pretty even match throughout the majority of the game in Washington State. They were neck and neck, with the board being at zero for a good portion of the match. The Cats finally broke the tie with a game winning goal in the 81' by forward Kelcey Cavarra.
Reaching Our Goals
Forward Brooke Wilson has stepped up this season in the goal department. Wilson has surpassed her career high of three goals set in 2018 by scoring six goals in nine matches this season. She added another to her count with a rocket shot from almost 40 yards away on Thursday night against UCLA. The goal landed her on Sports Center Top 10 that night.
Ranked
The Arizona Wildcats receive their taste of national fame, being ranked for the first time during the 2019 season. They come at 25th after only receiving one vote throughout the season.
How May We Assist You
Forward Jada Talley is at the top of her game, lending five assists and four goals within the first nine games of the season. Two of those goals came against UCLA, where she sealed the fate of the match in the 84th minute. Talley has scored 12 career goals and has eight career assists, putting her in an excellent position to break school records.
The Keepers
Red shirt freshman Kendyll Humphreys and freshman Hope Hisey have manned the goal well this season. Humphreys continues to keep opponents off the score sheet, having only let one goal past her all season. Hisey recently set her career high of six saves in her first Pac-12 game against Colorado and led the Wildcats to a two clean sheets against No. 10 UCLA and No. 15 Washington State.
Continuity in the Back Line
Arizona returns all four of their back line members for the 2019 season. Last season, Morgan McGarry, Samantha Falasco, Hallie Pearson and Sabrina Enciso played the bulk of the minutes and allowed just 19 goals in 21 games, an average of 0.87 goals allowed per game. The quartet were instrumental in keeping nine clean sheets, including five straight during the non-conference slate, a program record.
Building A Legacy
Tony Amato has taken the Arizona soccer program to heights it has never seen before with four NCAA Tournament appearances in the last five years. In his six years at the helm, the Wildcats have finished .500 or better with at least nine wins in each year. The expectations for the 2019 squad are no different this year with 19 returners from last year's team that hosted the first round of the NCAA Tournament and were knocked out by a quality Tennessee opponent in the second round. UA brings back 72% of their scoring from the 2018 season, including Jada Talley who led Arizona with seven goals last year.
An Unprecedented Run
Head coach Tony Amato, Arizona's winningest coach of all time, has taken the Arizona soccer program to places it has never been. For starters, he has led the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament four of his first six years as head coach, including four of the last five seasons. Prior to his arrival, the team made the tournament just twice from 1994 to 2012. Additionally, his teams have never finished the season below .500 in his six years, while Arizona had a record of .500 or better just twice in the previous 19 seasons.
A New Face
For the first time since the 2016 season, someone other than Lainey Burdett will don the keeper shirt for the Wildcats. Red shirt freshman Kendyll Humphreys and Tucson product Hope Hisey will compete for the starting spot this season. Humphreys was a member of the 2018 squad, but did not see any action. Both keepers have each started games for the Wildcats this season.
