ON THE PITCH

  • For the first time in school history, the women's soccer team has beaten two top-15 teams in one season after knocking off No. 10 UCLA on Oct. 3 and No. 15 Washington State on Oct. 10. Next up for the Wildcats is their third-straight away match vs. Utah.

  • Goalkeeper Hope Hisey has now played in every Arizona Pac-12 Conference game of the season, making 20 saves in five matches. Against No. 15 Washington State she added another four to her growing list, aiding in Arizona's seventh clean sheet of the season.

  • Senior midfielder Kelcey Cavarra scored her first goal of the 2019 season on Thursday against Washington State. The game-winning goal came in the 81' and sealed the Cats' victory over the Cougars.

  • Ava McCray, a transfer from Cal Poly, made her first career start as a Wildcat on Sunday against Washington, and scored her first goal.

  • Arizona beat No. 10 UCLA for only the second time in Wildcat history on Oct. 3. The victory over the Bruins came via a 3-0 shut out.

  • Arizona's win against TCU marked the 200th career victory for head coach Tony Amato. He became the winningest coach in Wildcat history in 2018.

Last Time Out
The Arizona Wildcats split the weekend on the road in Washington. A massive 1-0 victory over No.15 Washington State on Thursday was followed by a tough loss to Washington in double OT on Sunday. Both teams were an even match for the Cats with lots of back and forth play for large portions of both games.

How May We Assist You
Forward Jada Talley is at the top of her game, lending five assists and five goals within the first 12 games of the season. Two of those goals came against UCLA, where she sealed the fate of the match in the 84th minute. Talley has scored 13 career goals and has eight career assists, putting her in an excellent position to break school records.

We "Hope" You're Ready
Freshman Keeper Hope Hisey has been a crucial asset for the Wildcats in the 2019 season. She has played in nine of Arizona's 12 matches, with six being every Pac-12 Conference game of the season. She has contributed to four of the Cats seven clean sheets, with two being against nationally ranked teams (UCLA & WSU), and has recorded a whopping 26 saves in her first career season.

Reaching Our Goals
Forward Brooke Wilson has stepped up this season in the goal department. Wilson has surpassed her career high of three goals set in 2018 by scoring six goals in 12 matches this season. She added another to her count with a rocket shot from almost 40 yards away against UCLA. The goal landed her in the eighth spot on SportsCenter Top 10 that night and continues to be talked about during every Arizona match since.

Continuity in the Back Line
Arizona returns all four of their back line members for the 2019 season. Last season, Morgan McGarry, Samantha Falasco, Hallie Pearson and Sabrina Enciso played the bulk of the minutes and allowed just 19 goals in 21 games, an average of 0.87 goals allowed per game. The quartet were instrumental in keeping nine clean sheets, including five straight during the non-conference slate, a program record.

Ranked
The Arizona Wildcats received their first taste of national fame last week, being ranked for the first time during the 2019 season. They came at 25th after only receiving one vote throughout the season.

Building A Legacy
Tony Amato has taken the Arizona soccer program to heights it has never seen before with four NCAA Tournament appearances in the last five years. In his six years at the helm, the Wildcats have finished .500 or better with at least nine wins in each year. The expectations for the 2019 squad are no different this year with 19 returners from last year's team that hosted the first round of the NCAA Tournament and were knocked out by a quality Tennessee opponent in the second round. UA brings back 72% of their scoring from the 2018 season, including Jada Talley who led Arizona with seven goals last year.

An Unprecedented Run
Head coach Tony Amato, Arizona's winningest coach of all time, has taken the Arizona soccer program to places it has never been. For starters, he has led the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament four of his first six years as head coach, including four of the last five seasons. Prior to his arrival, the team made the tournament just twice from 1994 to 2012. Additionally, his teams have never finished the season below .500 in his six years, while Arizona had a record of .500 or better just twice in the previous 19 seasons.

A New Face
For the first time since the 2016 season, someone other than Lainey Burdett will don the keeper shirt for the Wildcats. Redshirt freshman Kendyll Humphreys and Tucson product Hope Hisey will compete for the starting spot this season. Humphreys was a member of the 2018 squad, but did not see any action. Both keepers have each started games for the Wildcats this season.
