PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Second-ranked Stanford handed Arizona a straight-set loss on Friday night in Palo Alto, defeating Arizona 25-16, 25-14, 25-16.
The Wildcats fell to 11-6, 1-4 Pac-12 on the season while the Cardinal improved to 10-3, 4-1 Pac-12.
Friday's match was the first of four straight on the road vs. teams currently ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for Arizona, which travels to Berkeley, California to face No. 16 Cal (14-1, 4-1 Pac-12) on Sunday at noon.
Arizona struggled to slow down the Stanford offense, which hit .405 on the night. The Wildcats, meanwhile, managed just a .102 hitting percentage in the match.
Junior outside hitter Katie Smoot led the Wildcats with 11 kills on Friday night, her second consecutive double-digit kill outing; the San Mateo, California, native also had a team-high-tying six digs in the match. Junior outside hitter Elizabeth Shelton added eight kills for the Wildcats.
