Arizona State Eliminates Arizona 76-47

SEATTLE – The Arizona State Sun Devils (20-11) knocked the Arizona Wildcats (6-24) out of the 2018 Pac-12 Tournament late Thursday night by a score of 76-47 in Seattle, Wash. at KeyArena. Kianna Ibis led the way for ASU with 13 points.

Turnovers were a major issue for Arizona as the Sun Devils forced 17 of them and turned that into 14 points. On the offensive end, Arizona State shot 57% and scored 48 points in the paint.

For Arizona, Sam Thomas finished the season by scoring in double-digits for the 17th time this season, pouring in 11 points. The freshman finished with 306 points this year, which is the 10th-most for any freshman in Arizona history.

Senior JaLea Bennett finished her career on Thursday night with 11 points, giving her 922 for her career. Bennett finished the season with 22 double-figure games. Fellow senior Kat Wright also knocked down three three-pointers to give her nine points.

The Sun Devils got off to a rocking start, especially on the defensive end as they outscored the Wildcats 17-2 in the first quarter. Arizona State forced nine turnovers and scored 11 points off those nine turnovers. The Wildcats responded well by winning the second quarter 18-17, but still had some work to do as ASU was up 34-20 at the half.

Arizona State extended their lead to 21 at the end of the third quarter after the Sun Devils outscored Arizona 23-16. The Devils were uber efficient in the third period shooting 73%. Arizona fought hard in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn't be enough as Arizona State was able to cruise into the quarterfinals.

With that, the 2017-18 Arizona women's basketball season comes to a close. The Wildcats will welcome eight new players to the team for the 2018-19 season, including the No. 5 recruiting class in the country along with transfers Aarion McDonald, Dominique McBryde and Tee Tee Starks.
