Arizona Meets Auburn in Maui 3rd Place Game

LAHAINA, Hawaii -- The Arizona Wildcats will close out play in the Maui Invitational on Wednesday when they face the Auburn Tigers in the third place game at 9:30 p.m., MST. Jason Benetti and Bill Walton will have the call.

  • Senior guard Justin Coleman tied his career high with 28 points Tuesday night. Coleman's previous 28-point outing came while he was at Samford versus Chattanooga. Coleman's six made 3-point field goals are a new career high. His previous high was five, set twice. Coleman needed just 12 shots to get his 28 points and was 8 for 8 from the free throw line. 
  • In two games at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, Coleman is averaging 23 points per game. Coleman is 10 for 17 from 3-point range in two games and 14 for 25 overall from the floor. 
  • Sophomore guard Brandon Randolph had 19 points Tuesday and has scored in double figures in all five games this season for Arizona. Randolph scored in double figures just four times last season as a freshman. Randolph was 9 for 10 on 2-point field goals Tuesday. Randolph is leading the team in scoring on the season at 17.2 points per game. 
  • Freshman guard Brandon Williams had 15 points in 34 minutes Tuesday. Williams was 8 for 9 from the free throw line. In Maui, Williams is 17 for 19 from the free throw line. He is 32 for 37 (87 percent) in five games this season. 
  • Arizona is now 14-7 all-time in Maui. 
  • Arizona will face Auburn in the third place game. The two programs have met just once before with Auburn winning 73-63 in the opening round of the 1986 NCAA Tournament in Long Beach, Calif. 
  • Coach Sean Miller is 2-0 all-time against Auburn. Miller faced the Tigers on Jan. 6, 2008 and again on Dec. 3, 2008. Xavier won the first game, 80-57 and 81-74. 
  • The Wildcats are 50-11 in November under Miller.
