TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona soccer team controlled the game from the get go and defeated the Grand Canyon Lopes by a score of 3-0 in the first exhibition match of the season.
Charlotte Brascia,
Amanda Porter and
Cali Crisler scored Arizona's goals.
"I thought it was a good first opening match for us," head coach
Tony Amato said. "We are in the middle of training so our legs weren't going to be the sharpest, but I think we saw some really good pictures of things we can be really good at. We'll sit down and watch the video and assess it all, but we definitely saw some really good things."

7' - The keeper could not collect the ball after a cross into the goal box and Brascia was able to gain control and finish easily for the first goal of the game.

Hannah Clifford made a brilliant pass across the six-yard line, and Porter was there for the simple finish at the back post to make the score 2-0 Wildcats.
76' – Crisler takes the ball from the top right corner of the goal box and is able to shoot it around the keeper to make it 3-0 Arizona.

Brandi Park drops an absolute dime to Crisler in front of the goal and she gets a head on it, but it goes over the crossbar.
19' - A beautiful bit of play from
Gabi Stoian and Brascia results in a corner kick for the Wildcats after some nice one touches by the seniors. The corner from Crisler is a good one and finds the head of
Kennedy Kieneker, but her header goes wide of the left post.
29' - A long pass from the left sideline from the foot of
Morgan McGarry is placed carefully on the foot of Stoian, but her shot goes high.
31' - After Arizona earns a free kick, Stoian's pass finds
Jill Aguilera, but her shot is blocked by the scrum of Lopes.

Hailey Mazzola makes a run and takes a long shot that smacks the bottom of the crossbar and somehow does not cross the goal line. The ball was cleared for a corner, but nothing came of it.
53' - Kieneker collects the ball after a clearance, takes a few touches and takes a shot with her left foot, but it goes over the goal.
59' - Clifford made a brilliant pass across the six-yard line, and Porter was there for the simple finish at the back post to make the score 2-0 Wildcats.
76' – Crisler takes the ball from the top right corner of the goal box and is able to shoot it around the keeper to make it 3-0 Arizona.

Brynn Moga finds herself in a break away situation and rips a shot, but the keeper is there to make the save. Shortly after,
Maddie Bennett found some room for a shot, but it went wide.
The Wildcats are back in action on Sunday at high noon MST in El Paso, Texas for another exhibition match against UTEP. Arizona will open the regular season on the road on Friday, Aug. 18 in Norman, Oklahoma to play the Sooners of Oklahoma at 5 p.m. MST.
