Late Goal Gives No. 6 USC 1-0 Win Over Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 6 USC on Thursday evening in Tucson, Ariz. USC scored a penalty in the 108th minute to take the win. Lainey Burdett made five saves in the match to try and keep the Wildcats level with the powerhouse Trojans.

The Wildcats are back in action from Tucson, Ariz. on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 12 p.m. MST when they host No. 1 UCLA at home.

Play-by-play recap

5' – Charlotte Brascia won the ball at midfield and tried to pick out Amanda Porter but her pass was intercepted.

9' – Cali Crisler found a loose, bouncing ball in the box and volleyed it just wide of the frame.

19' – Arizona got a free kick at midfield that went through to the keeper.

21' – Lainey Burdett stepped into a cross to break up the USC attack.

25' – Arizona earned a corner kick, but the resultant header bounced short and wide.

32' – Burdett made a big save inside the six and hung on to the ball to keep the score level.

34' – Samantha Falasco made a sliding block in the box to break up a USC attack.

47' – Jill Aguilera made herself some space at the top of the box and took a rip that forced a diving save from the USC goalkeeper.

56' – Pair of USC corner kicks were defended well and no shots were given up.

58' – Burdett made another big save on a shot from the penalty spot.

64' – McGarry carried down the right flank and crossed to Aguilera who rolled it back off her foot and shot but it was blocked.

78' – USC got a free kick near the box, but the shot went high and wide.

84' – Aguilera got a shot off that crossed the mouth of the goal and went wide.

88' – McGarry made a good defensive play to block a through ball in front of the net.

91' – Crisler took a shot from about 40-yds. that forced a diving save from the USC keeper.

93' – Enciso got a low driven shot off on the ensuing corner that went wide.

99' – USC was awarded a penalty in the box, but Alex Anthony skied the shot and the match continued.

108' – Alex Anthony scored a penalty in the 108th minute to give USC the win.
