No. 13 UCLA Outlasts Arizona 69-49

LOS ANGELES – No. 13 UCLA (17-4, 8-2 Pac-12) defeated the Arizona Wildcats (11-10, 2-8 Pac-12) on Sunday afternoon in Pauley Pavilion by a score of 69-49.

Malena Washington scored a team-high 11 points and also added in three rebounds. The senior has now scored in double-figures in 14-straight games and has made at least one three-pointer in 12 straight. LaBrittney Jones also hit double-figures for the eighth-straight game as she scored 10 points.

Breanna Workman, Dejza James and Destiny Graham did a good job of rebounding for Arizona as the trio combined for 21 rebounds.

The Bruins were stifling on the defensive end as the Wildcats shot just 34% and forced 20 turnovers on 13 steals. UCLA turned those 20 turnovers into 22 points. As a team, UCLA outscored Arizona 22-4 in points off turnovers, which proved to be a major deciding factor.

UCLA got out to a quick 11-4 start and would hold that lead at the end of the first quarter as the score was 20-13 after 10 minutes of play. The Bruins would then take a 39-26 into the locker room for halftime after winning the second quarter 19-13.

Defense was the story in the third quarter as the two teams combined for just 21 points. UCLA would end up outscoring Arizona 12-9 in the period to take a 51-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

Arizona managed to cut the lead to 10 with about eight minutes remaining, but then UCLA went on a 13-0 scoring run to put the game out of reach.

Arizona will fly back to Tucson tonight and will have a home series for the first time since Jan. 15 as they will face the Oregon schools starting with the Ducks on Friday, Feb. 3. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. MST.
