Wildcats Win 2-0 Over Columbia Lions

Tempe, ARIZ. – Arizona defeated Columbia on Sunday morning in Tempe, Ariz. by a score of 2-0. Arizona's goals came from Charlotte Brascia and Cali Crisler, with Maddie Bennett earning the assist on Brascia's goal. The Wildcats outshot the Lions 23-5 and had 11 shots on goal as opposed to Columbia's one. 

"Today was a difficult game and we are happy to get the result and keep a clean sheet," said head coach Tony Amato. "I thought Columbia played well and know they will have success moving forward. We were able to put pressure on them, create chances, and Charlotte and Cali did well to finish when the opportunity came their way. Overall, our team developed this weekend and improved in the areas we emphasized this past week in training."

41' – Bennett carried the ball to the touch line and then played a cross to the waiting Brascia who easily touched it in to put the Wildcats up 1-0. This is Brascia's first goal of the season and Bennett's first assist.

65' –Crisler scores her third goal of the season unassisted, tying her at the top of the roster with Lexe Selman Richards.

6' – Arizona started off the action with a corner kick from Gabi Stoian. The attack fizzled out after the Wildcats were unable to connect on the cross.

12' – Columbia earned the first shot of the game from Emma Anderson, whose shot goes wide of the cage.

13' – Paige Crouch rebutted the effort, coming back and putting her own shot just wide of the target.

19' – Lainey Burdett earned her first save of the game off a shot from Coloumbia's Amaris Hemmings.

22' - Corner kick for Stoian. She was able to connect with the height of Hannah Stevens, but Columbia's Sophie Whitehouse made the save.

27' – Whitehouse made another save on a shot from Arizona's Crisler.

31' – Crisler kept the shots coming, as she pumped in two more on Columbia's Whitehouse, but both shots went high and wide.

36' – Erica Stephan gets her first shot of the game, but it's blocked by the Columbia defense. She takes the resulting corner but the attack fails for the Wildcats.

41' –Bennett carried the ball to the touch line and then played a cross to the waiting Brascia who easily touched it in to put the Wildcats up 1-0. This is Brascia's first goal of the season and Bennett's first assist.

45' – The action remained calm through the remainder of the half, and Arizona entered the intermission up 1-0.

48' – Stoian took a corner kick that went to Kennedy Kieneker, whose shot then hit the post and went out of play for another Arizona corner kick. 

49' – Brynn Moga committed a foul and was shown a yellow card. 

65' –Crisler scored her third goal of the season unassisted, tying her at the top of the roster with Lexe Selman Richards.

70' – Jaden DeGracie-Bailey got her first tally in the match after she put a shot on frame and forced Columbia's Whitehouse to make a save.

73' –Stoian made an effort to get a goal of her own by creating space at the top of the box, but her shot went goes wide of the cage.

76' – Hailey Mazzola gets a tally on the stat sheet as she makes an effort that goes wide of the frame.

85' – Stoian continued to try and get on the board, but her shot was stopped by Columbia's GK Whitehouse.

90' – Arizona put up a few more shots at the end of the half, but the score remained 2-0 for the Wildcats second victory in Tempe.

Arizona is back in action on Friday, Sep. 9 in Tucson, Ariz. to take on Northern Illinois at 7 p.m. PST.
