LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The sixth-ranked Cats fell to UCLA, 1-4 in Saturday's Team Bracket play at the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championships. UA then advanced to the Contenders Bracket where they took down ASU, 5-0 and will compete against UW at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Â
The Wildcats fought hard, but fell short as they took the sand against the Bruins.
Arizona's No. 4 team of Mia Mason and got the first loss of the match as they were defeated by Zana Muno and Jessyka Ngauamo, (15-21, 19-21).
UCLA's No. 5 duo of  Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver picked up another win against UA's Hailey Devlin and MacKenzie Klesspeies after a hard fought battle in the second set, (19-21, 24-26).
At the No. 3 position, Olivia Macdonald and Sam Manley fell to the Bruins pair of Isabelle Carey and Elise Zapipia, (15-21,16-21).
Meanwhile, Wildcats' No.1 team of Madison and McKenna Witt worked hard, but dropped as they loss to Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara (18-21, 24-26).
Arizona's No. 2 tandem of Jianna Bonomi and Kat Schulz suffered a loss against UCLA's Ivey Schmitt and Kamila Tan, (15-21,15-21).
The Wildcats' would then advance to the Contender's Bracket and take on Arizona State. UA dominated against ASU as all pairs had sweeps.
After a hard fought rally the No. 1 team of Madison and McKenna Witt earned a victory against the team of Bianca Arellano and Whitney Follette, (24-26, 21-16, 15-11).Â
Jianna Bonomi and Kat Schulz, the Wildcats' No. 2 pair, dominated on court two as they downed the Sun Devils Kwyn Johnson and Natalie Braun in straight sets, (21-9, 21-16).
Arizona'a No. 4 team of Mia Mason and Kalei Mau picked up a win against Bethany Wedepohl and Jourdan Parnell to secure the sweep, (21-13, 21-17).
The Wildcats' No. 3 duo of Sam Manley and Olivia Macdonald fell in the first set, but pulled through and earned a victory against the Sun Devils' Mia Rivera and Madison Berridge (17-21, 21-17, 16-14).
Hailey Devlin and MacKenzie Kleespies down Arizona State in straight sets beating No. 5 team of Logan Rae and Frances Giedraitis (21-18, 21-14).Â
UA and UW will meet at 11 a.m. PT on Sunday with the winner advancing to face the loser of USC/UCLA in the Contender's Bracket semifinals at 1 p.m. PT. The winner of that contest will move into the Championship Match at 4 p.m. PT.
