Arizona Sets Attendance Record, Falls to North Texas

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women's basketball team lost their first game of the season to North Texas by a score of 62-58 on the eighth annual School Day. 8,442 fans packed the stands to set a new women's basketball attendance record.

"It was a tough game," head coach Adia Barnes said. "When you dig a hole for yourself early, it's hard to recover. They got confident after that, and that's why they won the game. I thought LaBrittney Jones was phenomenal though."

Jones once again led the Wildcats as she score 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Jones also made two three-pointers and had three steals in 36 minutes played. She now averages 20.3 points on 59% shooting and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Breanna Workman was second on the team in scoring as she put nine points on the board. She did a good job of getting to the line as she was 7-8 from the charity stripe.

Taryn Griffey filled the box score to an extent as she scored eight points, grabbed six rebounds (four offensive) and dished out a team-leading three assists.

The first half was a tale of two quarters as North Texas was leading 14-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats came right back though and outscored the Mean Green 19-13 in the second quarter to make the score 27-27 at halftime. North Texas came out hot in the second half as they went on a 20-5 run and would eventually take a 50-39 lead into the fourth quarter.

Arizona fought back hard, but North Texas was able to hold off the Wildcats and came away with a 62-58 victory.

North Texas was led by Terriell Bradley, who scored 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Mean Green shot 46.9% as opposed to Arizona's 35.1%.

Arizona is back in action this weekend as they head to Cedar City, Utah to face off against Southern Utah. Tip is set for Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. MST.
