CORVALLIS, Ore. - Despite a solid night offensively, 23rd-ranked Arizona volleyball fell in its final road match of the season in four sets to Oregon State (23-25, 29-27, 19-25, 22-25).
“We played against a team that played much better than we did tonight,” said head coach Dave Rubio. “Now we've got a long day of travel tomorrow and ASU on Friday.”
Kalei Mau posted 18 kills and 12 digs while adding five blocks in the match. As a team, Arizona (18-13, 8-11 Pac-12) had 65 kills in the match and hit .250.
Arizona had 77 digs in the match. Laura Larson, three days after a career-high 27 digs vs. UCLA, put up 25 digs. Larson now has double-digit digs in 14 consecutive matches.
Penina Snuka recorded her 20th double-double with 58 assists and 16 digs.
McKenzie Jacobson led the Cats with a .350 hitting percentage. The sophomore had nine kills and was in on six blocks.
Arizona notched 17 kills on .357 hitting, but the offense wasn't enough to overcome a heavy advantage at the service line by Oregon State, which had three aces compared to Arizona's zero and just one service error compared to five for Arizona. The Beavers (6-23, 4-15 Pac-12) won the set 25-23.
The Beavers led the majority of the second set and were a point away from moving up 2-0 when they earned three set points at 24-21. UA fought all three off to force deuce. Arizona went on to win the second 29-27 to even the match at one heading into the break.
The Beavers overcame an early deficit to take the third set 25-19 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Oregon State dominated the fourth before Arizona made it interesting by fighting off five consecutive match points, taking a 24-17 deficit to a 24-22 OSU lead before the Beavers finished things off with a 25-22 victory.
