TUCSON--The Arizona women's soccer team shut out the visiting University of Utah 1-0 in the first period of overtime Sunday at Murphey Field at Mulchay Stadium.

Both sides went scoreless through the ninety minute regulation, and it was freshman Jazmin Ponce's goal in the 97th minute that clinched the match for Arizona (3-5-2). Ponce, who was assisted by sophomore Ariel Boulicault and senior Alex Davis, dribbled the ball in on the near side, and went one-on-one with Utah GK Cheyanne Mulcock as she drilled the ball into the far left corner of the net.

Tonight's win also marks junior GK Ashley Jett's first career shutout. In just over ninety-six minutes of play, Jett grabbed three saves, one in the first half, and two in the second.

"Our group has a great ability to keep fighting the entire game," said head coach Lisa Oyen. "We did a great job defending them, and Ashley (Jett) did a great job tonight on her first shutout. I'm very proud of her. Jazmin (Ponce) also did a fantastic job hitting the game winner for us. She is an example of exactly what we want to see from our younger players."

Arizona led in all aspects of the match, except saves, out shooting Utah (2-10) 14-7, and made seven on-goal attempts to Utah's three. Ponce and Boulicault led the Wildcats with three shot attempts apiece, followed by senior Becky Barry who had two attempts at the goal. Freshmen Ana Montyoa, Jensen Skinner, and Shannon Heinzler, sophomores Kristin Strother and Kirstyn Magyar, and senior Macke Mutz rounded out the Arizona shot attempts with one each.

The Wildcats led the Utes in corner kicks 5-1, with Arizona taking four in the first half of play.

"Tonight was a good win for us," Oyen added. "We managed it in the toughest way possible, but we made it happen. The girls kept pushing, kept fighting, right until the end. Utah definitely kept us on our toes, especially from a couple chances late in the game."

Up next, the Wildcats wrap their non-conference schedule against the University of San Franscisco on Sunday, October 3 at 1 p.m. at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
