Cats shut out in final road match

CORVALLIS, Ore.--The Arizona women's soccer team was shut out 3-0 in their final road match of the season, at Oregon State on Sunday.

Freshman Ana Montoya led the Arizona (5-11-2, 1-6-0 Pac-10) squad with four shot attempts, all on goal. Montoya's first attempt came in the 13th second of action.

Fellow freshman Jazmin Ponce had three shot attempts and two on goal, and sophomores Kirstyn Magyar and Brittany Cole had one shot each to round out Arizona's nine-shot total.

All three Oregon State (15-1-1, 7-0-0 Pac-10) goals were made in the second half of action. The first was made in the 47th minute by Ashley Folsom, followed by the second in the 50th by Courtney Wetzel, and the last in the 68th, by Haley Shaw.

Junior GK Ashley Jett had one of her five saves in the first half, and four in the second half.

Oregon State out-shot the Wildcats 18-9, and both squads were even with on-goal attempts at eight each. The Beavers also edged Arizona 4-3 for corner kicks.

Next week the Wildcats will return to Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium to host their final two matches of the season. The Cats will take on UCLA on Friday, November 5 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, November 7, Arizona will finish off the season against USC at 11 a.m.
