TUCSON--The Arizona women's soccer team concluded their non-conference schedule Sunday with a 2-1 win over the University of San Francisco at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium.

The first half of play went scoreless, but then in the second half, seniors Macke Mutz and Alex Davis hit Arizona's (4-5-2) two goals within minutes of each other. In her first goal of the season, Mutz headed the ball in from a free kick taken by sophomore Kirstyn Magyar at the end of the 65th minute, and Davis followed with a feed from freshman Ana Montoya in the 72nd. Davis's goal was also her first of the 2010 season, and her first career game-winner.

"It feels really good to get the win today," said head Coach Lisa Oyen. "And getting our second in a row going into conference is also great. These wins will really help in getting the girls prepared mentally for what they are about to face next starting week. We now know what we have to do in order to play at our best. It's great that our seniors got in a couple goals today, and their intensity has really paid off."

Montoya and fellow freshman Jazmin Ponce led the team with three shots each. Freshmen Jensen Skinner and Shannon Heinzler, and sophomores Alex Smith and Kristin Strother also took one shot apiece.

The Arizona defense kept San Francisco (4-9) out of the net until the 80th minute of play when the Dons' Molly Hall drilled the ball past junior GK Ashley Jett, who made nine other grabs on the afternoon.

Arizona and San Francisco were even on shots at 13 apiece, but the Wildcats had a slim advantage in corner kicks at 6-5. In on-goal shot attempts, the Dons had a decided advantage over the Wildcats at 10-3.

"I definitely have to give credit to San Francisco," Oyen added. "They're a hard working team and they kept us on our toes for the whole game. We made some mistakes that they capitalized on, and they definitely kept us honest through the entire game. We just have to play a complete ninety minutes. These last two games have shown us that we know how to close out, and have shown us what we need to keep doing in order to be successful in conference."

Up next, the Wildcats will kick off the conference schedule on the road. Arizona will face Washington on Friday, October 8 at 7pm in Seattle, Wash. On Sunday, the Wildcats will travel to Pullman to take on Washington State.
