TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona volleyball team exacted a bit of revenge in
winning its third straight Pac-10 match with a 3-0 sweep over Arizona State
at McKale Center on Saturday. Game scores were 30-17, 30-26, 30-25.
The Wildcats (10-11, 4-6 Pac-10) carried over their strong blocking
performance from last week's match against Hawaii with an impressive effort
against the Sun Devils on Saturday. Paced by a match-high five block assists
from Bre Ladd and Kim Glass, Arizona set the early tone at the net and
finished with 10 total blocks on the night.
UA's presence at the net also disrupted the Sun Devil offense, limiting it
to a .121 hitting percentage.
Tallying 18 kills on .343 hitting, Glass edged closer to the 1,000th kill
of her career. The outing against the Sun Devils improved her all-time total
to 984, just 16 away from making her the fastest player in school history to
achieve the milestone.
Classmate Ladd added 10 kills on a match-high .471 hitting in the match on
Saturday and Jennifer Abernathy tallied four of Arizona seven service aces
on the night.
The win on Saturday evened the season series at a match apiece. ASU (8-11,
3-7 Pac-10) won the contest earlier this season in Tempe after rallying from
a 0-2 deficit to knock off the Wildcats, 3-2.
Arizona will take to the road for a pair of matches in the Bay Area. The
Cats will take on Stanford on Thursday and Cal on Friday. The Cardinal and
Golden Bears each won their respective matches in Tucson earlier this
season. First serve for both contests is set for 8 pm Tucson time.
