Carlos Villarreal & Addi Zerrenner Set to Compete in NCAA Championships

Tucson, Ariz. – The cross-country duo of Addi Zerrenner and Carlos Villarreal are set to represent the University of Arizona at the 2018 NCAA Championships on Saturday, November 17th in Madison, Wis. on the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
"I am really proud of these two individuals this year who have been consistently doing a great job," said head cross country coach James Li. "Now they go to this big dance and it is going to be a good competition. It is definitely an experience for both of them that is new. All they really need to do is what they have been doing all year. I think they are going to do great. It will hopefully elevate our team for future years and to get everyone's performance up so we can make it to nationals as a team."
Zerrenner is set to make her final appearance as a Wildcat at 9:45 a.m. MST in the ladies 6K. Zerrenner has competed in five meetings for the Cats in her senior campaign, never finishing outside the top 25 individually and has always finished as Arizona's top runner. Zerrenner's best finish of the year came when she won her second consecutive Dave Murray Invitational title. Earlier this year, Zerrenner competed in the NCAA Pre-National where she finished 21st and clocked a time of 20:08.3 on the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
Villarreal will hear the gun go off at 10:45 a.m. MST for a 10K race. In five contests this year, Villarreal has not finished outside the top 15 individually, finishing in the top three on three occasions. Villarreal's best finish of the year came at the Dave Murray Invitational, where he won the 6K race with a personal best time of 19:06.9. The redshirt junior finished third at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational with a time of 23:54.8 in the 8K race. He took second at the 2018 NCAA West Regional with a time of 29:43.4 to earn an individual bid for Saturday's meeting. In the 2018 NCAA Pre-National on the Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, Villarreal finished 10th with a time of 23:54.8 in the 8K contest.
Last year at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Claire Green competed as an individual and finished 24th to earn All-America Honors with a time of 20:02.9.
The last time Wisconsin hosted the NCAA Championships was in 1978. Under coach Dave Murray, the Cats finished 7th in the men's 10K with Thom Hunt finishing third individually clocking a time of 29:34.10 to earn All-America Honors.
