Arizona Falls to USC in Four Sets

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Arizona fell to No. 16 USC in four sets (21-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23) on Friday night at the Galen Center.
Destiny Ndam-Simpson led the Wildcats with 13 kills and nine digs, while Carlie Cisneros added 10 kills and 12 digs. Kennedy Osunsanmi also recorded 10 kills, and Maria Olga Siapani dished out 13 assists. Arizona totaled nine team blocks, led by Kristen Dear's four block assists.
USC took the opening set, 25-21. Ndam-Simpson paced Arizona with nine kills and Cisneros added four, but the Trojans used three service aces and a late run to take the set
Arizona responded with a 25-20 victory in the second set to even the match. Trailing 12-8, the Wildcats used a 7-0 run to take control. Arizona recorded four aces and four blocks in the set, holding USC to a .133 hitting percentage. Osunsanmi led the offense with four kills, while Cisneros and Ndam-Simpson each added three.
USC regained the lead with a 25-20 win in the third set. The Trojans jumped ahead early and held off Arizona's push, hitting .263 in the frame. Renee Jones led the Wildcats with three kills, while Cisneros and Osunsanmi each contributed two.
The Trojans sealed the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set. Arizona battled back from a 23-19 deficit to cut the lead to one, but USC claimed the final point. Dear and Osunsanmi each had four kills in the set.
The Wildcats will face Oregon State tomorrow, September 12th, at 3:00 pm MST at the Galen Center.
