NCAA Championships: The No. 1 ranked Arizona women's golf team goes after its eighth consecutive tournament win when it travels to Sunriver, Ore., for the 2000 NCAA Women's Golf Championships. The tournament is being held at the Crosswater Course, Sunriver Resort, a par 72, 6,502 yard layout. The tournament will take place from May 24-27. The Wildcats will travel to Sunriver with four golfers ranked in the top-25 and five golfers ranked in the top-30. Arizona has won the NCAA Championship once before - back in 1996 in La Quinta, Calif. - and has produced three NCAA individual champions (Marisa Baena, Annika Sorenstam and Susan Slaughter).

Tournament Format: The four-day, 72-hole event will consist of 18 holes of play each day. Action will begin all four days at 9:00 a.m. MST/PDT... There will be five golfers representing each team and the top four daily scores will count toward each team's score.

Television Coverage: ESPN2 will be broadcast the final three rounds of the tournament. The schedule includes: Thursday and Friday - (live) Noon-2 p.m. MST/PDT Saturday's final round will be tape delayed for a Sunday broadcast (TBA) on ESPN2.

UA Golf Notes: The top-ranked Wildcats have been ranked No. 1 for the past 11 weeks in a row... Each member of the Arizona top-five is ranked among the nation's top-30...The UA has earned its top-ranking by capturing eight tournament titles this season, including the last seven in a row, which is a school record... The Cats can set the school record for tournament wins in a season with eight... The only times Arizona has not won this season were a second place performance at the year's first event -- the NCAA Preview and fifth place showing at the Stanford Invitational... The first victory of the season was at the Dick McGuire Invitational held in Albuquerque, N.M... Arizona took home the title by finishing at 28-over-par 880... The next win came at the Golf World Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C... There, the Wildcats finished with a total of 11-over-par 875... At the TRW Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif., the UA won with a 17-over-par 869... 2000 NCAA West Regional Recap: The Arizona women's golf team captured the title at this year's NCAA West Regionals, posting a team total of 12-over-par 876. The tournament was held at the Karsten Golf Course (par-72, 6,131 yards) in Tempe, Ariz... San Jose State came in second place, carding a 17-over-par 881... USC (24-over-par 888), Arizona State (25-over-par 889) and Texas Christian (28-over-par 892) rounded out the top five... Arizona State's Miriam Nagle took home the individual title scoring a 7-under-par 209... UA's Christina Monteiro tied for sixth (1-over-par 217), while Julia Kraschinski tied for 10th (3-over-par 219)... Jenna Daniels shot a 5-over-par 221 to tie for 15th.

UA's NCAA Championship History: This will be the Wildcats 13th overall appearance in the NCAA Championships and their sixth consecutive appearance in the NCAAs... They won it all in 1996 at the Dunes Course in La Quinta, Calif., beating San Jose State by one stroke in a sudden death playoff... Arizona was the runner-up in 1992 and has placed third on three occasions, 1991, 1997 and 1998... Last season, the Cats finished fourth at the rain-shortened NCAA Championships in Tulsa... Three UA women have won the individual title, Marisa Baena in 1996, Annika Sorenstam in 1991 and Susan Slaughter in 1990... Those three also placed second at the NCAAs -- Baena in 1997, Sorenstam in 1992 and Slaughter in 1989... A team from the Pacific-10 Conference has won the NCAA Championship in eight of the past 10 years... Arizona State has won it two of the past three years... As mentioned, Arizona won it all 1996, breaking a string of three straight ASU national titles (1993, '94, '95)... UCLA won it 1991 and ASU again in 1990... Only San Jose State (1992) and Duke (1999) interrupted the Pac-10's dominance in the 1990s.

1999 NCAA Championship Recap: After a two-hour thunderstorm and lightning delay, the fourth and final round of the 1999 NCAA Women's Golf Championships was canceled, and as a result, the third round results stood as the final results. Arizona was in fourth place heading into the final day. Prior to the time the final round was canceled, the Wildcats were in third place after completing 16 holes of play. When play was suspended, Arizona was at 63-over-par and trailed first place Duke by eight shots and second place Arizona State by six. Individually, Jenna Daniels had moved up to eighth place at 8-over-par and Krissie Register was in 11th at 15-over-par. Duke won the team competition at 895 and Arizona State's Grace Park captured the individual medalist honors at 1-under-par 212. The final standings reflected that both Register and Daniels tied for seventh place at 11-over-par 224. In the third round, Register shot a 74 for the second straight day and moved up from 12th place, while Daniels turned in her best round of the tournament with a third round 72 to move all the way up from 22nd place. Following that duo was Christina Monteiro, who after shooting a 72 in the third round, was tied for 21st with a 15-over-par 228 (76-80-72). Jill Gomric tied for 35th at 18-over-par 231 and Cristina Baena placed 47th with a 20-over-par 233.

Been Here, Done This: This will be the second time Arizona has played at the Crosswater Golf Course in Sunriver Ore., this year... The course was the host of the NCAA Preview last fall. Pac-10 Honors for the UA: Jenna Daniels was named the 1999-2000 Pac-10 Conference Women's Golfer of the Year... She was also named to the All-Pac-10 first team... Joining Daniels on the All-Pac-10 first team were two other UA golfers - Jill Gomric and Cristina Baena... Two Cats were named to the honorable mention team, Christina Monteiro and Julia Kraschinski... Head coach Todd McCorkle was selected as the Pac-10 Coach of the Year... For Daniels, this year marked the third consecutive year she has been named to the All-Pac-10 first team... It was Gomric's second consecutive season to receive All-Pac-10 first team mention.

2000 Pac-10 Championships: The Arizona women's golf team captured its sixth consecutive tournament title at this year's Pac-10 Championships on April 26, carding a team total of 19-over-par 883... It was the UA's fourth Pac-10 title in school history and third in the past four years... The tournament was played at the Eugene Country Club Golf... Individually for the Wildcats, Jenna Daniels shot a three day total of 3-over-par 219 and finished in second place... Cristina Baena placed third with a 4-over-par 220... Tied for fourth place was Jill Gomric, carding a 5-over-par 221... Julia Kraschinski finished her first Pac-10 Championship tied for 14th with a 10-over-par 226, while junior Christina Monteiro tied for 26th at 15-over-par 231... Competing as an individual was freshman Anne Lee, who also tied for 26th at 15-over-par 231.

Arizona's Coaching Staff: Todd McCorkle, this year's Pac-10 Conference Coach of the Year, is in his second season as head coach of the women's golf team... He has led Arizona to 12 tournament titles in 23 outings during his two years at the helm of the UA women's golf program... Prior to last year, McCorkle served as UA Director of Golf Rick LaRose's associate head coach for both the Arizona women's and men's teams in 1997-98... Last year, the women's team finished second at both the Pac-10 Championship and NCAA West Regional, and then placed fourth in the NCAA Championships... Prior to coming to Tucson, McCorkle was the head coach of the Coastal Carolina men's and women's golf teams... He is assisted by Amy Solfisburg, who is in her seventh year with the UA women's golf program.

Wildcat Golf Tradition: Arizona won the 1996 NCAA title, finished third in 1996 & 1997 and placed fourth last season...
