Arizona Falls to Tulsa in Three Sets

OMAHA, Neb. – Arizona fell in three sets (27-29, 16-25, 18-25) to Tulsa on Saturday at the Bluejay Invitational.
Destiny Ndam-Simpson led the Wildcats with 13 kills and 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Kennedy Osunsanmi followed with six kills and three blocks. Journey Tucker added five kills on seven swings to hit .714 and recorded four blocks. Arizona totaled six blocks in the match.
Tulsa won a back-and-forth first set, 29-27. Arizona hit .300 with 16 kills and held a 19-14 advantage before Tulsa put together a 6-0 run to take a 20-19 lead. The teams traded points down the stretch, with the set featuring 14 ties and eight lead changes. Arizona fought off set point at 26-25 and took a 27-26 lead on a kill from Carlie Cisneros, but Tulsa scored the final three points to take the opening set. Ndam-Simpson and Tucker each had four kills for the Cats.
The Golden Hurricane took the second set, 25-16. Tulsa jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Arizona answered with six straight points to take a 6-5 advantage, highlighted by three consecutive kills from Ndam-Simpson. Tulsa regained the lead and pulled away late, hitting .441 with 17 kills in the set. Ndam-Simpson led Arizona with four kills while Osunsanmi and Renee Jones added two kills each.
Arizona fell 25-18 in the third set. The Wildcats held an early 9-7 advantage before Tulsa used a 9-2 stretch to take control of the set. Ndam-Simpson led Arizona with five kills while Payton Woods added four kills and hit .300. Osunsanmi recorded two kills and three blocks in the final set.
The Cats will continue the Bluejay Invitational tomorrow, September 6 against Pepperdine at 10 a.m. MST.
