Wildcats Use 11 Blocks to Complete Sweep of Tarleton State

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona won the second match of the season with a sweep over Tarleton State (25-17, 25-23, 25-22) on Saturday in McKale Center at ALKEME Arena.
The Wildcats shined defensively with 11.0 blocks and Journey Tucker led the way with five blocks. Offensively, Arizona was led by Destiny Ndam-Simpson and Kennedy Osunsanmi with seven kills each while Carlie Cisneros followed with six kills. Arizona also served seven aces to overcome Tarleton State.
The Cats took the first set 25-17 over the Texans. The team traded points for the first half of the set before Arizona use multiple runs to pull ahead and win the set. The Wildcat hit .346 in the set and were led by Osunsanmi and Marina Vosloo who both had three kills with a .750 clip. Arizona used three blocks to limit Tarleton State to a .276 hitting percentage and Tucker recorded a pair of solo blocks and a block assist.
Arizona took a two-set lead in the match with a 25-23 win in the second set. Following 16 tie scores in the set, the Cats won the final two points to go up 2-0 in the match. Arizona's attack was spread between five players with Cisneros, Renee Jones, and Ndam-Simpson tallying three kills to lead the way. The Wildcats recorded three blocks for the second straight set and Osunsami and Tucker had two blocks each.
The Wildcats won the third set 25-22 to win the match. Arizona's defense recorded five blocks to hold the Texans to a .067 hitting percentage and the Wildcats used a late 4-0 run to extend their lead to secure the victory. Kristen Dear helped the Cats win the set with four kills and an .800 clip while also recording four blocks.
Arizona will close out the Wildcat Classic against UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, August 30 at 12:30 p.m. MST in McKale Center at ALKEME Arena.
