LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Breanna Williams made her Arizona debut one to remember, scoring a game-high 23 points as the Wildcats opened the 2026-27 season with an 84-69 win over Stanford Monday at T-Mobile Arena in the Hall of Fame Series.
Williams was named the Hall of Fame Series Player of the Game after finishing with 23 points and nine rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. The redshirt sophomore shot 9-of-13 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line while posting a game-best plus-25 in her first regular-season appearance as a Wildcat.
Arizona (1-0) never trailed, leading for 37:53 and building its advantage to as many as 15 in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats held a 20-11 advantage after the opening period and took a 42-31 lead into halftime before closing out Stanford with a 23-point fourth quarter.
The win extended Arizona's season-opening winning streak to 12 consecutive games.
Williams sparked a balanced Arizona attack that featured four additional Wildcats in double figures. Sumayah Sugapong finished with 12 points, while Aliyahna "Puff" Morris and freshman Jasleen Green each added 11. Freshman Arynn "Simba" Finley scored 10 points with five rebounds in her collegiate debut.
Arizona's depth made an immediate impact. The Wildcat bench outscored Stanford's 40-14, led by Williams' 23 and Finley's 10. Arizona also held a 22-13 advantage in second-chance points and scored 46 points in the paint.
The Wildcats set the tone defensively from the opening minutes. Arizona forced 30 Stanford turnovers and recorded 15 steals, turning those miscues into 25 points. Stanford shot 48.1 percent from the field but was limited to 25 percent from 3-point range.
Arizona jumped in front early behind its pressure defense. The Wildcats forced turnovers on three of Stanford's first possessions and never surrendered the lead. Williams entered midway through the first quarter and quickly made her presence felt, scoring six points in the period, including an and-one with five seconds remaining that gave Arizona a 20-11 advantage.
The Wildcats pushed the margin to 14 early in the second quarter when Williams picked off a Stanford pass and converted the steal into a fast-break layup. Arizona carried an 11-point advantage into the break.
Stanford cut into the lead after halftime, but Arizona never relinquished control before outscoring the Cardinal 23-17 in the fourth quarter to secure the 15-point victory.
The victory marked Arizona's second straight win over Stanford after the Wildcats defeated the then-No. 3 Cardinal, 68-61, at Maples Pavilion in the programs' previous meeting in 2024.
Arizona returns to McKale Center at ALKEME Arena for its home opener against Iona on Sunday, Nov. 8.
