Wildcats Sweep Red Raiders at Home

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona won its first Big 12 match of the season with a sweep over Texas Tech on Sunday afternoon in McKale Center at ALKEME Arena. The Wildcats won 25-14, 25-20, 25-18 to improve to 6-8 (1-2 Big 12) this season.
The Cats served eight aces and had five blocks to outlast the Red Raiders. Journey Tucker led the defense with four blocks while Carlie Cisneros served four aces to lead the team. Destiny Ndam-Simpson had 13 kills to pace the offense and Cisneros followed with 11 kills.
Arizona took the first set 25-14. The Wildcats hit .444 and served four aces to win the set. Cisneros led the offense with five kills and a. 625 clip while Ndam-Simpson followed with four kills. The Cats used multiple scoring runs to hold the Red Raiders to just 14 points in the opening set.
The Wildcats won the second set 25-20 to take a two-set lead in the match. The Arizona offense hit .270 and was led by Ndam-Simpson with six kills. The Wildcats had just one block in the set but held Texas Tech to a .178 hitting percentage.
Arizona secured the sweep with a 25-18 win in the third set. The Wildcats used three blocks to limit the Red Raiders to a .000 hitting percentage and Tucker and Kennedy Osunsanmi had two blocks each. Cisneros and Ndam-Simpson led the attack with three kills each while Kristen Dear and Osunsanmi both added a pair of kills. Arizona used an 8-0 run in the middle of the set to pull away from Texas Tech to win the match.
Arizona will head to TCU next Friday, October 9 before heading to Baylor on Sunday, October 11.
