Arizona Battles Oklahoma State to 3-3 Draw

STILLWATER, Okla. – Arizona Soccer battled Oklahoma State to a 3-3 draw Friday night at Neal Patterson Stadium, answering each of the Cowgirls' three goals to earn a point on the road.
Mireya Stephenson, Lily Boydstun and Ella Weathersby each found the back of the net for the Wildcats (3-5-4, 0-1-3 Big 12), with Weathersby converting from the penalty spot in the 87th minute to secure the draw.
Oklahoma State opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 19th minute, but Arizona needed just over five minutes to respond. Stephenson found the equalizer in the 24th minute off assists from Zoe Mendiola and Marissa Arnst.
The Cowgirls regained the lead with 15 seconds remaining in the opening half to take a 2-1 advantage into the break.
Arizona responded almost immediately after halftime. Lily Boydstun stepped up for a free kick in the 48th minute and found the back of the net to level the match at 2-2. Oklahoma State answered less than two minutes later, however, as Sonora De Fini scored in the 50th minute to put the Cowgirls back in front, 3-2.
The Wildcats continued to push for another equalizer, generating nine shots and three corner kicks over the final 45 minutes. Marissa Arnst forced a save in the 64th minute before Zoe Mendiola put another attempt on frame in the 81st.
Arizona's persistence paid off late. After Weathersby generated an attempt in the box, the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick. Weathersby stepped to the spot and converted in the 87th minute to bring Arizona level for the third time of the night.
Arizona finished with 16 shots, six on goal, while Oklahoma State recorded 17 attempts with three on frame. The Wildcats also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Stephenson led Arizona with three shots, including two on goal, while Arnst, Leilani Cortez-Ramirez and Weathersby each added multiple attempts.
