Cats Fall to UTEP in Four Sets

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona lost in four sets (19-25, 25-21, 17-25, 18-25) to UTEP on Tuesday night to fall to 6-3 on the season.
The Wildcats were led by Jordan Wilson with 14 kills and Carlie Cisneros and Ana Heath who had 11 kills each. Avery Scoggins recorded a double-double with 41 assists and 15 digs.
The Miners won the first set, 25-19. UTEP started the set on a 4-0 run and the Wildcats couldn't come back from the deficit. Wilson had five kills while Cisneros and Heath tallied three kills each for the Cats.
Arizona won the second set, 25-21, to even the match. The Cats used a 3-0 run late in the set to create separation from UTEP to win the set. Cisneros and Heath had four kills each to lead the attack and Wilson added three kills. Journey Tucker recorded two blocks to help the defense hold the Miners to a .229 hitting percentage.
UTEP took a 2-1 lead in the match after winning the third set, 25-17. The Miners took advantage of a pair of 3-0 runs to extend their lead over the Cats in the middle of the set and held the lead the rest of the way. Heath recorded three kills while Tucker and Wilson had two kills each but it wasn't enough to overcome UTEP's .533 clip in the set.
The Wildcats fell in the fourth set, 18-25. UTEP hit .350 and had three blocks in the fourth set to win the match. Wilson tallied four kills while Cisneros added three kills but the Miners held Arizona to a .147 hitting percentage in the set.
Arizona will head to Nebraska to take on the No. 1 Huskers on Saturday, September 20 at 6 p.m. MST.
