Cats Wrap Up Pac-12 Championships

OJAI, Calif. – The Wildcats were led by the 27th-ranked doubles tandem of Briar Preston and Shayne Austin (13-7), as they teamed up to defeated USC's Gabby Smith and Madison Westby 8-5 to advance to the quarterfinals, Friday out at the Ojai Athletic Club.
“We had a good day of tennis and a good end to our regular season,” head coach Vicky Maes said. “I saw improvements from last week and I feel we have a good foundation for next year. Now we wait and see if Lauren (Marker) will be selected for singles in the championships and also Briar (Preston) and Shayne (Austin) for doubles.”
Preston/Austin's run came to an end in quarterfinal action, as the duo fell 8-1 to Stanford's 18th-ranked tandem of Ellen Tsay and Caroline Doyle
After collecting two victories yesterday in the individual singles bracket, Devin Chypyha (17-13) lost in the quarterfinals to No. 96 Kaitlin Ray of UCLA 7-5, 6-2. The doubles team of Chypyha/Laura Oldham (10-8) fell to Arizona State's Alexandra Osborne and Leighann Sahagun in the invitational doubles bracket 8-6 Friday morning as well.
No. 62 Lauren Marker (23-9) and Inge Hendrikx (19-14) each participated in singles back draw matches. Marker competed against 55th-ranked Madison Westby of USC and defeated her in three sets 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. Hendrikx took on Cal's Lyann Hoang and lost 6-1, 6-1.
Marker, Austin, and Preston now await their fates as the three hope to be selected to compete in postseason play.
