Lalang and Sambu Punch Tickets to NCAA Championships
The No. 4 women's team tied for second place in the 6,000-meter race while sophomore Lawi Lalang won the men's 10K on Friday.
BEFORE ARIZONA: Legernes attended the University of Tulsa for the fall semester of 2011 ... He competed on the cross country team.
HIGH SCHOOL: He attended high school at Rudbeck in Norway ... He earned a first-place finish at the Swedish Junior Championships in the 2,000-meter steeplechase ... At the European Junior Championships he finished in ninth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase ... Legernes also competed at the World Junior Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
PERSONAL: He is the son of Helga and Lotta Legernes and was born in Gothenburg, Sweden ... He has three brothers, two twins, Erik and Henrik, and Johan ... He is pursuing a degree in physiology and aspires to be a physical therapist.
