20070317 Cats Qualify Six for Last Day of Finals Competition

Minneapolis , Minn. ?C The Arizona menˇ?s swim team completed the final day of preliminary competition at the 2007 NCAA Championships this afternoon, qualifying six athletes to compete in three events.

Freshman Jake Tapp qualified for his first individual championship finals of the meet in the 200 back, finishing eighth overall with a person best time of 1:42.75.

Three Wildcats qualified for the100 free, as senior Adam Ritter finished fourth (42.45), sophomore Nicolas Nilo finished seventh (42.71) and junior Darian Townsend finished ninth (42.83).

Finishing off todayˇ?s events was the 400 free relay team of junior Albert Subirats, Nilo, freshman Joel Greenshields and Townsend finished fifth overall with a time of 2:52.72.

Freshman Jean Basson will swim the first of four heats of the 1650 free timed finals at 5 p.m. (CST). Finals competition for the remaining events will begin at 7 p.m.
