Ritter Takes Pac-10 title in 200 Individual Medley
Senior Adam Ritter took his first individual conference title of his collegiate career in the 200 IM with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:45.51
“I feel that it is harder to win an individual title here than it is at NCAAs,” Ritter said. “Most of the teams here are rested and trying to make their cuts, what we did at the Texas Invite last December, so I think it’s pretty special to win here. I feel a little more rested since our last dual meet, but I’m just trying to race as best I can and I felt really good coming into the finish (of the IM).”
Freshman Jean Basson began this evening’s action for the Wildcats in the 500 free, finishing sixth overall with a time of 4:24.45, while junior Matt Biel finished ninth in the event with a time of 4:24.21 and sophomore David Pursley finished 12th (4:26.05).
Finishing behind Ritter in the 200 IM was junior Darian Townsend who placed fifth with a time of 1:47.01 and junior Bart Steninger who finished sixth (1:47.41).
In the 50 free, sophomore Nicolas Nilo finished sixth with a time of 19.97, while junior Albert Subirats finished 13th (20.14) and freshman Jordan Smith finished 15th (20.35).
Finishing tonight’s events was the 200 free relay of Subirats, Nilo, Townsend and Ritter, which finished third with and automatic qualifying time of 1:18.36.
