Men?s Swim and Dive to Compete at Pac-10 Championships

A Look at the Wildcats ?- The men’s swimming and diving team is currently ranked No.6 with a 5-2 overall record (3-2 Pac-10). The Wildcats feature some of the best swimmers in the nation, including two-time NCAA Champion Simon Burnett who posted his second national title in the 200 freestyle at last year’s NCAA Championships. Burnett is currently ranked first in the nation for the 200 freestyle, as he holds the NCAA and Pac-10 records with a time of 1:32.22. The Competition: The Wildcats will have their work cut out for them this week, taking on the best teams in the nation including Stanford, who has taken the top-spot in the national rankings posting a 6-0 overall record (5-0 Pac-10).

Diving- The men’s diving team competed with the women last week in Federal Way, Wash. and will add their cumulative scores with the men’s swimming team score at the end of the championships this week. Senior John Collier finished fifth on the 3-meter board with 333.20 points, sixth in the 1-meter with 327.05 points and eighth in the platform with 229.70 points.
Junior Patrick Sullivan finished sixth in the platform competition, respectively, with 251.20 points. Sullivan also finished seventh in the 1-meter (310.65 points) and 10th in the 3-meter (267.60 points).
Women at the Pac-10 Championships ?- The women’s team completed competition at the Pac-10 Championships last week on Feb. 25 in
2006 Pac-10 Champions - The women posted their first conference title on the first day of competition in the 200 medley relay. It was the first title in school history for the women in this event as seniors Marshi Smith, Erin Sieper, freshman Lara Jackson and freshman Anna Turner won the race with a time of 1:39.60.
On the second day of the championships, the Wildcats defended their conference title in the 200 free relay. The team of sophomore Courtney Cashion, senior Jenna Gresdal, freshman Anna Turner and sophomore Lacey Nymeyer posted a time of 1:30.22 to win the event.
After day three, Junior Whitney Myers and senior Jenna Gresdal both posted individual Pac-10 titles, marking the fourth conference title overall for the Wildcats. Myers won the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:14.18, tallying the first of six NCAA automatic qualifying times for
Sophomore Courtney Cashion took the first individual title on the final day of competition for the Wildcats in the 100 freestyle, winning with a time of 48.59.
Senior Tiffany Manning took the top-spot in the platform diving competition with 296.85 points, posting the first Pac-10 title for a diving event in six years.
Finally, tallying the seventh championship title for the women was the 400 free relay team composed of Cashion, senior Jenna Gresdal, freshman Taylor Baughman and sophomore Lacey Nymeyer, who set a new meet record, winning with a time of 3:16.60.
