Wildcats Trail Texas and Lead SMU After First Day of Competition
For the men, the 200y free relay team took second-place with a time of 1:21.38, just behind
Junior Lyndon Ferns swept the competition in the 100y freestyle, winning with a time of 43.87 while freshman Jonas Persson was fourth (45.40) and sophomore Adam Ritter was fifth (45.67). Ferns also won the 100y butterfly with a time of 47.21. Freshman Nick Thoman posted the second first-place finish for the men’s team, winning the 200y backstroke with a time of 1:45.48. Freshman Ivan Barnes tied with Finishing tonight’s events was the 400y medley relay team of Thoman, Barnes, Ferns and junior Simon Burnett who won the race with a time of 3:15.69.
For the women, the 200y free relay team posted the first victory for the wildcats winning the race in a time of 1:32.58. Senior Emily Mason won the 400y individual medley with a time of 4:19.97 and sophomore Whitney Myers finished third (4:21.55). Freshmen Courtney Cashion and Lacey Nymeyer finished second and third in the 100y freestyle as Cashion took second-place (50.66) and Nymeyer was third (50.67).
Senior Jessica Hayes finished fourth in the 200y backstroke (1:59.75) and Myers finished second in the 100y butterfly (50.02). Mason swam the 500y freestyle in a time of 4:47.20, taking third place. The 400y medley relay team of junior Marshi Smith, junior Erin Sieper, Myers and Cashion finished second with a time of 3:44.00.
On the diving side, senior Claire Febvay finished fourth in the 3-meter competition with 457.50 points and senior Daniela Bemme was fifth (444.85 points).
