Jenna Daniels Wins Honda Award for Women's Golf

Tucson, Ariz. University of Arizona women's golfer Jenna Daniels is the recipient of the 1999-2000 Honda Sports Award for women's golf, an award that recognizes the nation's top collegiate female athlete in 12 different sports. Daniels is now a candidate for the Honda-Broderick Cup, which goes to the National Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. That honor will be awarded June 12 in Orlando, Fla.

Daniels, a senior from Bonita, Calif., has been the nation's top-ranked golfer for the majority of the season, while leading the Wildcats to a No. 1 ranking and seven consecutive tournament wins. She was named the 2000 Pacific-10 Conference Golfer of the Year and was a first team All-Pac-10 selection for the third year in a row. She leads the team in stroke average (71.70) and has finished among the top-10 in nine of the UA's 10 tournaments. She has won two tournaments this year and never finished lower than 15th.

Daniels becomes just the second Arizona woman golfer to win the Honda Award, joining Marisa Baena, who received it for 1995-96.

The Arizona women's golf team begins play in the NCAA Championships today at Sunriver, Ore. The final round is set for Saturday.
