Glencoe, Illi. – After the first day of the Windy City Collegiate Classic, the Arizona women's golf team is in ninth place out of 12 teams following a team score of 586 (+18) at Lake Shore Country Club.
Nagore Martinez led the way for the Wildcats with a 2-under 71 in her second round to leap into a tie for 13th place at 2-over par overall. Martinez caught fire in Round 2, carding a 3-under 33 behind birdies on holes 4 and 10 and a hole-in-two eagle on the par-5 seventh. Her second-round charge followed an opening-round 75 (+4) that featured birdies on holes 4 and 14.
Kinsley Ni matched Martinez at 2-over par total (T13) after following up a 73 (+2) in Round 1 with an even-par 71 in Round 2. Ni was steady out of the gate in both rounds, recording early birdies on holes 3 and 5 in her opener and striking again with birdies on 1 and 7 in the second round. She added two more birdies on the 10th and 12th holes on day one to keep her scorecard balanced.
Cloe Amion Villarino sits tied for 38th place at 6-over par overall after rounds of 72 (+1) and 76 (+5). Villarino posted the team's best opening-round score, playing her back nine with birdies on holes 15 and 17. In Round 2, she showed great resolve on her back nine once again, rolling in birdies on the par-5 13th and par-4 15th holes.
Olivia Hung finished at 9-over par across 36 holes, posting rounds of 74 (+3) and 77 (+6). Hung proved to have the magic touch on the par-3 eighth hole in Round 1, followed by a birdie on the exact same hole in Round 2. She also added birdies on the 14th hole in her first round and the ninth hole in her second.
Antonia Steiner rounded out the team at 16-over par for the 36 holes, but showed major momentum by knocking six strokes off her card between rounds (82 to 76). On her second 18, Steiner found her groove on the back nine, playing holes 10 through 17 in even par and picking up a birdie on the par-4 12th hole alongside a front-nine birdie on the par-5 ninth.
Stanford leads the tournament at 9-under par, with Celina Yeo setting the pace on the individual leader board with a 7-under par overall.
