Wildcats Win Home Opener vs. UTEP

TUCSON, Ariz. - Women's Tennis started off their season with a 5-1 win over UTEP in a windy match on Sunday, Jan. 15. in their first of 16 home matches.
Despite losing the doubles point, the Cats bounced back in singles play with six wins – five of which were won in straight sets. Sophomore Parker Fry clinched the match 6-1, 7-5 against Thassane Abrahim at No. 4 in the lineup and freshman Tanvi Narendran won her first dual singles match 6-4, 6-3 against Zuzanna Szczepanska.
Today's match marked the first time the Cats have hosted the Miners since 2017. The Wildcats have a perfect 8-0 record in their series against the Miners. In their last matchup on Jan. 31, 2022, Arizona swept UTEP 7-0.
Up next for the women's team is a doubleheader at home on Sunday, Jan. 22. The Wildcats face off against Cal Poly at 11 a.m. MST then GCU at 3 p.m.

Senior Kayla Wilkins battled Veronika Lebisova to three sets after falling 1-6 and coming back 6-2. Wilkins was down 2-3 in the third set before the match was canceled due to inclement weather.Great win by Parker to secure the win and congrats to Tanvi for winning her first college match!!
