TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona men's golf team finished the second day of play at the Pac-12 tournament in Pullman, Wash. on Tuesday. Freshman George Cunningham had a standout round, carding a 68 (-2) to end the day tied for eighth with a score of 71-70-68=209 (-1). Cunningham posted three birdies and an eagle on 18 to help put him in a great situation heading into the final day of the tournament.
“I was really happy with today,” Cunningham enthusiastically reflected. “I played solid all day I did have a few mistakes early but I was able to bounce back from them and get some birdies. I feel like I'm in a great spot heading into tomorrow. If I play a really good round and get some help from the leader, I could have a chance of competing for the win.”
Freshman Peter Koo had a solid outing, carding a 71 (+1) on the day to tie him for 58th place. Koo finished the day with a score of 79-76-71=226 (+16). Freshman Jake Kruez and senior Alex McMahon both shot a 72 in the third round. Kruez ended the day with a score of 73-74-72=219 (+9) to tie him for 39th place. McMahon wrapped up the day with a 77-73-72=222 (+12) to put him in a tie for 47th place.
Senior Brenden Redfern shot a 78 (+8) on the round to place him 55th overall with a score of 72-74-78=224 (+14). Freshman Max Donohue finished the day tied for 63rd, shooting a 76 (+6) in the third round to post a current score of 79-73-76=228 (+18).
“Today was a very good team effort," head men's golf coach Jim Anderson noted. "We can't try any harder. These guys are playing with all their heart and staying committed. Experience is helpful in championships and our young players are seeing their first major in college golf. George was outstanding again and his game is very solid on all types of course setups. Tomorrow, our focus will be on finishing better. We gave up seven shots on the last three holes. If we finish strong, we will post a very good score.”
The Wildcats will play the final round of the Pac-12 tournament tomorrow, April 29 at 9 a.m. Live scoring for the round can be found at http://golfstatresults.com.
