TUCSON, Ariz. – After another day of golf at the National Invitational Tournament today, Arizona stands in 10th place at 11 over par with freshman George Cunningham and senior Alex McMahon leading the team. Cunningham carded a three under par today with four birdies, one on the front and three on the back. He is currently tied for fifth place. McMahon posted a score of one over with three birdies, one on the front and two on the back. This nets him a share of 12th place overall.
“I'm happy to see George post another subpar round,” commented head men's golf coach Jim Anderson. “We had a good meeting and will make adjustments so more guys can follow his lead.”
Sophomore Jake Kreuz was only a few strokes back from the leaders, posting a 75 (+3) today. Senior Brenden Redfern was right on his heels with a 77 (+5), and senior Ricky Lee posted 82 (+10) after today's round. The Wildcats total score at the end of the day was 295 (+7).
“We were disappointed with our results today,” said Anderson. “We made some bogeys early, and unfortunately it set us back where we felt like we were trying to play catch up the rest of the day. Fortunately, we have 18 holes to make up for some mistakes today. We tee off first from No. 10 and we will be prepared to post a number in the weather.”
The individual competition went well for the Wildcats today, as freshmen Max Donohue and Peter Koo both carded 71s (-1). This puts them tied for 27th and 37th respectively. Junior Kolton Lapa was only a few strokes back with a 73 (+1). He is now tied for 46th.
The third and final round of the National Invitational Tournament will begin tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. MST on the OMNI Tucson National golf course.
