
Wildcats Sweep Dave Murray Invitational

Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Wildcat men's and women's cross country teams hosted the 2014 Dave Murray Invitational on Friday at Del Urich Golf Course. Both the men and women earned first-place finishes, led by sophomore Collins Kibet for the men and senior Kristina Aubert for the women.
The men's 4.25-mile race was first on the day and Kibet won with a time of 21:15.00. Kibet won the Invitational last year during his freshmen season with a time of 21:28.86. The second-place finisher on the day was senior Sam Macaluso, with a time of 21:16.00. Senior Kenji Bierig posted a time of 21:29.00 reeling in a fourth-place finish for the Wildcats. Sophomore Matthew Beer took eighth place with a time of 22:10.00. The final scorer for the Wildcats was sophomore Patrick Leary (10th place; 22:16.00), freshman Michael Godbout (11th; 22:22.00), sophomore Brendan Tinoco (21st; 22:45.00), sophomore Jeffery Gautreau (30th; 23:09.00), junior Dylan Hopper (37th, 23:27.48), senior Braden Timpe (38th; 23:27.72), and freshman Rodolfo Gomes (44th; 23:45.00).
Overall, the men's team won the Division I section with a total of 25 points. Northern Arizona took second place with 49 points. Arizona State had 77 points in third place and Arizona Christian finished in fourth place tallying 125 points.
“I think we did really well,” head coach James Li said. “This is an early season meet that makes it good for us to get some good training in on our home course. I think, compared to last year, we actually did better. And everybody is getting done what they are supposed to be getting done on both the men's and women's side.”
On the women's side, the Wildcats won the race conquering the first six spots in Friday's race. Dominating the race today was senior Kristina Aubert, who took first place with a time of 16:40.00 in the three-mile race. Tailing behind her was junior Molly Callahan, grabbing a second place finish with a time of 17:21.00. Third place was senior Stephanie Bulder with a time of 17:29.00, followed by a fourth place finish from Kate Penney running a time of 17:32.00. Fifth and sixth were swept by Arizona senior Amanda Russell with a time of 17:37.00 and freshman Claire Green in sixth place with a time of 17:44.00. Also running for the Wildcats, senior Hanna Peterson (13th; 18:03.00), and junior Daylee Burr (24th; 18:55.22).
The women's team won the Division I section with 15 points overall. Northern Arizona's tally of 49 points was good for second place. Arizona State finished with 100 points in third place and Arizona Christian totaled 112 points in fourth place.
“It was great having Molly (Callahan) back,” said Coach Li. “She is a great contributor and can do a lot for this team.”
The Wildcats next meet takes them to Earlysville, Va., where they will be competing in the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational.
