
Formaz Wins Three-Mile Race at ASU Invite

Tempe, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Wildcat men's and women's cross country teams were back on the course on Thursday afternoon, competing at the Arizona State Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The meet was between Arizona, Arizona State and Northern Arizona. Senior Clea Formaz won the women's three-mile race and freshman Bailey Roth was the top finisher for the men, taking third place. The women's team won with 26 points and the men's team took second place with 29 points.
Senior Clea Formaz won by nearly 30 seconds in the women's three-mile race, posting a time of 17:39.97. The second-place finisher was redshirt freshman Kayla Ferron, clocking a time of 18:10.60. Freshman Claire Green's time of 18:29.71 was good for seventh place overall and third among Wildcats. Senior Hanna Peterson finished ninth overall with a time of 18:41.43. Redshirt junior Kate Penney had a time of 18:43.60 in 10th place, the final scorer for the Wildcats. Junior Daylee Burr had a time of 18:49.47 in 12th place and freshman Chrissy Calain had a time of 21:17.96 in 24th place.
The UA women had 26 points in first place, NAU tallied 46 points in second place and Arizona State took third place with 55 points.
Roth finished the men's four-mile race in 20:30.5, good for third place overall. Sophomore Matthew Beer was the second Wildcat finisher, posting a time of 20:37.80, good for sixth overall. Freshman Patrick Leary had a time of 21:07.06 and took eighth place. Sophomore Jeff Gautreau took 12th place with a time of 21:22.64. Senior Jonas Legernes' time of 21:27.55 was good for 13th place. Arizona also ran freshman Michael Godbout (15th; 21:39.64), freshman Rodolfo Gomes (19th; 22:10.76), junior Dylan Hopper (21st; 22:20.24), sophomore Brendan Tinoco (23rd; 22:43.07), freshman Gustavs Kehris (24th; 23:06.16) and senior Braden Timpe (25th; 23:16.83).
The men's team tallied 29 points in second place, finishing behind ASU's 27 points. NAU did not field a men's team.
Next up for the Wildcats is the Pac-12 Championships on Friday, Oct. 31. The meet will begin at 9:40 a.m. MST and take place in Oakland, Calif.
