Sept. 27, 2010
VAIL, Colo. - The Arizona women's golf team shot a 296 (+6) on day-two of the Golfweek Conference Challenge to move into second place, one shot behind leader UC Davis.
The Cats held the lead for much of the day before giving back three strokes on the final hole, relinquishing the lead to the Aggies. Arizona got good production from the bottom of the lineup to make up four of the five strokes it trailed by entering the day.
The course played much more difficult in the second round; only two individuals recorded scores under-par and the lowest team score was UC Davis' round of six-over. Margarita Ramos fell victim to the course; the junior started the day a shot out of first place, but her 78 (+6) dropped her from a tie for third to a tie for 13th.
The Wildcats have four players in the top-20. Alejandra Llaneza moved up seven spots into the top five with her second straight 72 (E). Llaneza is five strokes behind leader Therese Koelbaek of UNLV. Isabelle Boineau, fresh off her individual medal in the Topy Cup is four-over and in the tie for 13th along with Ramos. Sherlyn Popelka bounced back from her first-round 77 (+5) with a 72 (E) and is tied for 16th at five-over.
The third round will be held tomorrow, Sept. 28, with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.. Check golfstat.com for live stats tomorrow.
