Arizona Finishes 10th at Giffords Collegiate

SAN MARTIN, Calif. - The Arizona men's golf team concluded its fall slate Wednesday with a 10th place finish at the Giffords Collegiate Championship. Arizona carded a 1,127 (+62) for the tournament, finishing 53 strokes behind champion UCLA.
The Bruins ran away with the team title after scoring a 347 (-8) in the final round, a full 19 strokes better than the second best round of the day, a 366 (-11) shot by seventh place and eight place finishers, San Diego and Oklahoma, respectively. UCLA bested Pac-10 foe Stanford, the round two leader, for the win.
Arizona was led by Tye Beall, a freshman competing in his first competition with the Cats. Beall finished tied for 23rd, nine strokes over-par. The individual medalist, Patrick Cantlay of UCLA was six-under.
Tarquin MacManus jumped 18 spots on the leader board with his one-over 72 in the third round. The senior finished tied for 30th, eleven-over. Also in that tie was Eric Oja. The freshman was in the top-20 when the day began, but closed with a 77 (+6) that dropped him to 30th. Jonathan Khan finished tied for 54th at 16-over. Trent Redfern tied for 65th and Philip Bagdade finished 73rd.
Arizona will look to rebound from a rocky fall season when the team takes on the bulk of the year's schedule in the spring. The Wildcats are in action next in the Arizona Intercollegiate Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 2011.
The Giffords Collegiate Championship was contested at the CordeValle Golf Course, a par-71, 7,169 yard course.
