TUCSON, Ariz.- Washington strengthened its lead at the Pac 10 Men's Golf Championships, shooting a 347 (-13) today en route to a 1072 (-8) total. Arizona dropped to ninth following their third round of 367 (+7). The Cats sit 44 strokes off the pace with one round to play.
The Huskies are led by Darren Wallace, who fired a 65 (-7) today, increasing his lead to four strokes. Washington holds a seven stroke lead over Oregon, the only other team under par.
Four strokes behind Wallace is John Murphy of California. At three under, Oregon's Daniel Miernicki and Washington's Nick Taylor are tied for third. Tarquin MacManus moved into the top five with his 69 (-3) in the third round.
MacManus shot the lowest score on the team for the second straight round, both sub-70 marks. No other Wildcat has carded a score in the sixties. After falling from fifth to 22nd in round two, Phil Bagdade shot a 75 (+3) in the third round, and dropped into a tie for 34th place. Rich Saferian shot par today, improving to 44th in the tournament. Jonathan Khan has a score of 227 (+11) through three rounds, and is tied for 49th. At 18 over, Tyler Neal is in 54th. Brad Nicholson is tied for 57th.
The final 18 holes is scheduled for tomorrow at 8 a.m. PDT. The Pac-10 Championships are being contested at the Seattle Golf Club, a par 72, 6,836-yard course.
